Main Activities

  1. Providing a learning experience

·        Teacher to bring pupils to the basketball/ netball court in school.

·        Teacher to introduce equipment needed for a game of captain’s ball.

·        Teacher to go through the rules.

·        Pupils are organised into groups and allowed to play a game of captain’s ball.

·        Teacher to conduct (referee) the game.

  1. Sharing of experience

·        In the classroom, teacher to allow pupils to share their thoughts (oral interaction)

·        Teacher to recap with pupils what they have done, step-by-step.

·        Teacher to write pupils’ recap on the butcher paper.

  1. Writing a recount
    • Teacher to tell pupils that they need to write a story based on their experience.
    • Teacher to remind pupils to use past tense as they will be writing a recount.

Although there is still some structure in the lesson, pupils are still able to develop their personality through movement – captain’s ball game. In addition, teacher only does a recap with pupils. Therefore, it is pupils are allowed to inject freedom of expression (meaning their feelings and emotions during their experience) in their individual recount.
