At the beginning of The Three character primer, there states ”人之初,性本善”(by Mencius. Mencius’s ideas have their origin in Confucius’s thoughts). I also believe when people was created, We has been placed a conscience in the heart in each and every one of us human beings. Therefore all of us have this thing in us that wants to see wrongs righted and seeks justice as well as fairness. Naturally we have in ourselves this system of moral values. Though moral values may differ from one individual to the other and vary from one culture to the other, we feel anguish when we do not fulfill our personal standards of moral obligations. Thus in my view, morality is not what the society tells us to perform, but truly, it is something that the human, as a created being, seeks fulfillment in.
Speaking on the societal level, it is important to cultivate moral values. Rules are only as binding as people who follow them – what good is Civil Law when no one complys? However, when we all practise a similar level of moral standards, we will treat one another graciously and indeed it will be a better place to live in. On the other hand, where immorality prevails, there will be chaos.
